HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE It’s hard to keep cool over our way, heatwave aside; we found out last week that we’re up for five awards with Norfolk Food and Drink – Outstanding Front of House, Field to Fork and Best Restaurant PLUS Best Restaurant and Best Afternoon Tea at our big sister company The Dial House in Reepham too. The heat is well and truly on and now we hand the baton over to you – our loyal customers. The four restaurants to be shortlisted for the Best Restaurant category will be handpicked by you guys – so please please help us by voting for us. We’d be over the edible moon to say the least. The public vote will be open from Monday 6th August to Sunday 19thAugust.

NATIONAL ALLOTMENTS WEEK runs from 13th August to 19th August this year and the theme is “Living and Growing”. The idea being the importance of growing your own food and I myself believe it is absolutely important to get involved, if you can. It can be anything - herbs on a windowsill; tomatoes in a pot by your backdoor; or strawberries in some hanging baskets. I am very lucky as my partner’s family collectively own an allotment not far from where we live. My kids love seeing food go into the ground as seeds and end up on their plate, although in many instances, it never gets that far and it is consumed there and then. 

Allotments are not for the faint hearted, though, and, even though I stake claim to being part of one, the credit really has to go to Jayne and Andy for their hard work all through the year. It takes planning, commitment and painstaking amounts of digging.

Farmyard benefits from their hard work and quite regularly rhubarb, courgettes (and their flowers), greengages, gooseberries, tomatoes and artichokes make their way into the kitchen and onto the menu. Last year, one of our chefs had an allotment and quite regularly would bring in beans and edible flowers for us. We love it – and what better story to tell our guests

It’s our quarterly Dementia
friendly lunch service on
Wednesday 5th September.

A regular lunch service with photos on menus, quieter music and smiley ‘dementia friends’ trained staff who are keen, as always to welcome everyone. Clive Harvey for winning last month’s liquid lottery, please come and collect your bottle of Domaine Gayda, Flying Solo Rosé.

This month’s wine prize from our favourite wine supplier Rob at CH wines is...

Hacienda Lopez de Haro, Rioja Blanco Spain 
López de Haro manually harvest the grapes used to make this wine bunch by bunch from vineyards in the Sonsierra area of La Rioja Alta. The vines are aged between 50 and 80 years and are planted on the foothills of the Tolono Mountains. An interesting and complex wine. Ripe fruit flavours with notes of date and banana results in a mouth filling finish and pleasant aftertaste.

Don’t forget we’re open for theatre dining from 5.30pm with our set menu of two courses for £15 and three for £19. Carafe of wine also available.  So, you can have a light supper and be at the Theatre Royal in time for lights down.

As many of you were aware, we sold out of places to our Domaine Gayda wine pairing dinner on 4th July pretty quickly. So this is just a reminder that our next pairing will be with Norfolk wine producers Flint. They’re making a special appearance just for us mid grape picking season and would like to apologise in advance for any grape stains or twigs in the hair.
